nihongoresources.com - more than just a dictionary site

In addition to Japanese dictionary functionality, this website offers free online lessons in Japanese at University level, as well as a free grammar book and several articles of interest to people learning Japanese. It also lets you change the default search settings and site colours ^_^

Searching

The search system should be fairly self-evident, but if you need more help, head over to the help page (listed under "general") for a more detailed explanation. Wildcards are allowed and use both * and ? - * in your search text means "zero or more letters", and ? means "exactly one letter".These wildcards are context sensitive, so if you're looking for he*o then * is considered zero or more western letters. If you're looking for なに? then the ? is considered a hiragana syllable, and if you're looking for 一生*命 then the * is considered one or more kanji. Makes sense, really.

More searching

If you are looking for words and get no results, you may also want to try separate searches in the names dictionaries, or the sound effects dictionary. Names and the vast majority of sound effects (giongo/gitaigo) are so specific and plentiful that they are not part of the general dictionary and require separate searches.

By the way: you don't have javascript turned on. You kind of need javascript enabled. The site will work without it, but only in reduced functionality mode. Given modern browser's ability to white-list websites for using java and javascript (IE7's built in whitelist system, "noscript" extension for firefox users, etc) it makes no sense to keep it turned off.
